Robins Nest

And then moving swiftly on to the next new item in my garden… A robins nest. As I said on blog “garden transformation 3” I think, my Dad made me a lovely bird table to which I have a pair of robins attending…. So naturally to give them a helping hand my partner Jason and I set about making a nest box for them. It is its infancy and I will show off the finished article when it is done.
By the way Thanks so much for all the ideas and “well dones” from Grows on you members. Its a lovely thing to be involved in..

Great that you are helping the wildlife. I had robbins nesting in an upturned bin lid some years ago lol. I hope they like the new box you've made them :o)

You've got some adventures yet to unfold in your garden. Really hope your nest box has residents really quickly once you have it in situ. :)

Some lucky robins will soon be having a new home !
They do net in strange places. Last year we founda nest with eggs in it in a plastic carrier bag of fircones that was hanging up in a sheltered area next to our kitchen door. We had to be so careful every time we opened the kitchen door because the robin that was sitting on the eggs would get frightened and fly into our kitchen.
It travelled all the way upstairs once and we had to rescue it and put it back on the eggs.
Unfortunately no babies developed as one morning when we went outside the robin had gone and so had the eggs. I couldn't find any broken shells or anything around so it is a mystery where they went.

Lovely idea looking forward to seeing it finished. I hope you don't mind me bringing this to your attention, as you may already know. The RSPB recommend you place a nest box on a north facing wall. If you place it in direct sunlight the eggs could get to hot and the chicks die.
