Gardeners World Plant List 28th August 2009

Hi Folks,
Here’s the plants from last Friday’s Gardener’s World. It’s down to half an hour now we’re at the end of summer and the week before was all about a garden that had been reinvigorated by its new owner so no plant list from that.

Toby started by taking stock of the new twilight and tropical gardens at Greenacre:

Cleome hassleriana ‘Helen Campbell’ (Spider flower)
Lychnis coronaria ‘Alba’ (White flowered rose campion)
Dahlia ‘vuurvogul’

At Glebe cottage Carol had an impressive swarm of bees hanging from a tree and she spoke about
Phlox paniculata (Border phlox)

Joe and Toby finished the seaside garden that was drenched when they started it earlier in the month and planted:
Euphorbia myrsinites (Myrtle spurge)
Elymus hispidus (Wild blue rye)
Eryngium pandanifolium (Giant sea holly)
Sedum rupestre (Reflexed stonecrop)
Centranthus ruber (Red valerian)
Erigeron karvinskianus (Mexican fleabane)
Limonium binervosum (Rock sea lavender)

Joe also had some finishing off to do after the rain and had planted up the top of his bike store.
Saxifraga ‘Pixie’
Leontopodium alpinum (Edelweiss)
Erodium x variabile ‘Album’ (Heron’s bill)

Joe took a visit to York Gate to talk about garden design and highlihgted a few plants:

Tropaeolum speciosum (Flame creeper)
Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ (Black mondo) – Grass

Pyracantha ‘Saphyr Rouge’ (Firethorn)

Only one plant was highlighted in garden we were shown around and which was owned by a couple who worked with textiles:
Persicaria amplexicaulis ’Firetail (Red bistort)

Just managed to get this list done before this week’s show :o)
