Celandine:

The eastern part of San Diego where I live - it's been 92-98 degrees F. / 33 - 37 degrees C. during the day and the lows temps are around 71 degrees F / 22 degrees C. and pretty humid...this is called the "July Fry".

Mushybanna:

Thanks! Yes, they are stunning! It's my favorite flowering tree....hence, my screne name. : > )

You're sister is probably in temperature shock! LOL!

Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana is a very tropical tree...young trees are extremely tender to the slightest cold and resent watering which rot and kill them quickly.

Mushybanna:

I meant to say Royal Poinciana trees resent over watering which kills them quickly.

Sandra:

It is quite a stunner...especially in person. My camera cannot capture the true brilliant red of these flowers. (the flowers look more orange when taken with my camera)

your picture is lovely. but i know what you mean i find it hard sometimes too..my camera takes great close-ups but i loose detail when i photo something big. colours vary from shot to shot to. but this plant is stunning i would love to see them one day....

Sandra:

I assume the closest place (to England) to see one outside in the ground as a large tree would be in Southern Portugal or Spain.

my mum goes out to spain on holiday and brings me back photos and seeds of various plants. thats how i got my pheonix palms...thay took a while to get going but now the biggest seedling is aboy four foot....

Sandra:

Do you know your Phoenix palm is a male (a boy) because it has bloomed? If so, you're quite the botanist!

The reason why as I ask...is because most people can't tell the difference between male and female trees on the Genus: Phoenix (except unitl mature female trees produce seed and males don't)
