Two years I tried to start these from seeds, but they are fussy little things. They want their seed frozen, then when you plant them they have to be in the dark at first, and this and that and the other thing. I gave up and just went out and bought a plant this year..lol..So much easier. They are a little bit more to buy, probably because of the conditions they need to get started.
I think it's neat to have a black flower though as black flowers aren't the usual to have in a garden so they are something different.
Though I have seen black Hollyhocks, but I don't have the room to grow them.
I think there are tulips in black now too, or a dark, deep purple that looks black.

I've seen the black tulips, but like you say they are very very deep purple: they are still very striking.

I had some queen of the night tulips for a few years. I don't think they came back this year...definately worth getting again
