Well all I can tell you Billie is that the front garden where my Hollies are, gets a little sun early in the morning and then is in shade until at least 4pm during the summer months......But I think you can plant it a sunny position's too......
I found this reference on the net: Plant holly and ivy in sunny positions where they can grow tall and flower for the holly blue Butterfly: just one of the many we are losing due to climate change...............
I have Ivy too Billie and drives me mad because its so hard to cut back but I keep it because the little wrens love to feed off the insects it attracts ....
Blimey I've written an essay Sorry :0)

Lol! :-)) I have a habit of doing that myself...just get carried away and when you click 'submit', a whole chapter of a book comes up!

I must tear myself away and pack some bits to post - Ebay stuff! No doubt I'll be back later!!

Interesting about the holly too, thanks.

yes Amblealice I had reasoned that and they are welcome to do so, but I have at the moment several tree's growing that I have not planted, I suppose I can only expect that after years of neglecting this garden............But they will have to go.....Someone told me of something you can paint on very young tree stumps to stop them growing but blowed if I can remember the name of it........
