I think that you are correct Janey, It was a Red Admiral and not a Painted Lady. In my books they look very similar underwing. I've amended the entry as you can see Adoronron..

No, I think I'm wrong here Ado......definitely a Painted Lady...Lol! Women...they do interfere!! The Red Admiral in my book has quite a plain underwing....no rings but red edging....my apologies....:o)

Beautiful Adoronron....you're right we have very similar pics....:o)....This looks darker than mine....its not a Red Admiral?
