Sybil relaxing in her grass patch

Sybil relaxing in her grass patch

Sybil in her indoor grass patch--2 pieces of Bermuda sod in an under-bed storage container filled with a layer of aquarium rocks, then perlite and potting soil, then sod. Lasts a long time and she LOVES it!! Eats it, stays in there for hours rolling around in the sun. I have this in my sunroom for her and she uses it year-round (I use lawn-patching seed, mainly rye grass (?) during the winter to keep it going.) At just a couple of dollars per piece, I just replace it when the grass dies.

hi, welcome to GOY

What a great idea! Your cat looks right at home in the indoor grass...
I have a south facing bay window that would be perfect for something like that. It gets a few hours of direct morning sunlight, tons of ambient light, and would probably support a grass container like that rather well! The rye grass is a great grass to use because that is what most of the over-priced pet stores will sell you @ $5.00 per 4" pot like I was growing. :-)

Very cool and nice looking cat! ;-)

I first made an indoor grass patch when I moved to Georgia in 2007 to a second-floor apartment. Then I bought a house in 2008 but it doesn't have a fence and Sybil is blind, so I have to be with her when she's outside. (And I have to watch her like a hawk because she starts wandering after a while!) There are a lot of stray cats and dogs and a lot of traffic in our neighborhood, so I don't like her to be outside. I'm scared she would run off into the street if she got scared. (She runs into furniture inside.) Anyway, she loved the grass patch from the apartment so I kept it in the house and she just LOVES it!! She likes to sit by the deck door and sniff the air, but she lays in the grass and doesn't really bother me to go outside too much anymore, so it must be pretty satisfying (and it's safe for her, away from other animals and cars.)
