Where are all the finches then?

Where are all the finches then?

Got this Niger seed feeder about 10ft up in covered spot under conifer as I'm sure I read that the greenfinches like privacy. However, the ones we have seen have fed off the peanut feeders and since I put this feeder up about a month ago, we've not seen any!! Any ideas guys? Are they out of season? Is my feeder in the wrong location?

yes they are and I was chuffed a couple of months ago when I saw one from my office upstairs - I say office, it has a computer and some desks, lol! - but since putting their kind of feeder up, they haven't been back as we're aware. I might move it again - for the 3rd time!

Yeh, it's just wierd that they were here - not in abundance I'll grant you - but now there not, unless I'm missing them.

Sure they'll turn up again at some point.

Now you both mentionit, I did mix a bag of sunflower seeds with my mixed seeds so there were more SF seeds in there than normal. Since I opened a new 20K bag of mixed seeds, they not been so maybe I invest in some more SF seeds and see how it goes!!

My goldfinches go for sunflower hearts too. I can have 15/20 birds at a time but they are very quiet at the moment.
When birds have finished breeding and feeding they go into a moult which is a stressful time for them. They tend to hide away and don't feed so much. Once they have their new feathers they'll be back!

i would love to do something like that or work with animals, years of hairdressing, sometimes i feel like a change even though i do work for myself now and only 3 days, its taking its toll on my tendons, wrists and neck,

I used to be a hairdresser too Sandra!
I do enjoy my work, it has fulfilled what I wanted to do for so long. But it is physical and long days and bad weather (I work outdoors) make me wonder how long I can keep it up!

Sorry OB, seem to have hi-jacked your page!.... :o))
