Gomphostigma virgatum - 2009 (Gomphostigma virgatum)

One of the most asked about plants at my garden opening yesterday

Difficult to tell its size - is it a shrub?

Yes. Cut it back annually to stumps like a buddleja and it makes six feet in a season. But you'll have to hunt round for a supplier

:-( I certainly couldn't fit that in, Andrew!

Beautiful lovely effect Majeekahead should have this for her fairy garden.

Looks worth the hunt! Several growers call it "Otterbossie": cute. Usually silver plants seem more drought tolerant, but info says it likes a fair bit of water, growing along streams. What's your experience?

I grow it in full sun on clay improved with lots of grit so it has drainage at the surface and moisture further down

I'll find it and give it a try, tho first summer here has been almost rainless, and last winter very wet. So dry on top and clay holding underneath might work. Hope so: it looks like a good "weaver".
