i know you will love it... i was sent some seed from another member last year, and i have been sooooo pleased with them...they do smell a bit funny though.... cheesey feet or ear wax not qutie sure,,,, but not the best scent... but they more than make up for it in other ways....

LOL. Did you give it any heat, or did it just germinate easily??
15 Aug, 2009
no heat in my Greenhouse Spritz.... and as you know don't get on too well with propergators... but i did'nt get a high rate of germination... enough obviously, but given the amount of seed i sowed i am sure you could get better with your far suprior propergating skills and equiptment... lol

Haha....not yet, Angie! Not even on order, yet!
And I am not nearly as experienced as you when propagating!!! I'll maybe try with and without heat...see what happens!

yes why not Spritz... would be interested to see how you get on.... maybe a blog?

Does this need sun or shade? (a bit premature, when they are still seeds! LOL)

The foliage is as beautiful as the blossom.

well i have one in full sun and one in semi shade, the one in semi shade had a lot less flowers and seems to have just disapeared since... the one in full sun has been beautiful, lots of flowers followed by this lovely leaf colouring.... you do know that this variety is annual? you need to collect and re-sow each year... well worth it though i think :-)
18 Aug, 2009
No I didn't know that it is an annual, but from the looks of it I agree it is well worth collecting and re-sowing every year.

I don't think it is, Angie, I think it's a short-lived perennial. That info is off a seed packet from a blue version! I'm going to plant them today. Fingers crossed!

mmmm i swapped this seed with Hardyg last year and she told me this was annual...this is the lady that can name variety from leaves alone lol... to be honest i think i would agree with her, it has no signs of new growth at the bottom.... it is just dying back, like you would expect from an annual to do when it has finished it's life cycle....we have had no frost as yet have we...in my experience the perennial varieties that are starting with autumn die back are not as far gone as this is now, and usually you can still see crowns or new growth at the base as you pull out the dead bits.. not with this one... it looks more like my annual poppies do i'm affraid...if i pull the whole thing will come out... so i think annual... but we shall see i will cut back rather than pull out and see what happens in the spring... i have plenty of seed anyway :-) ... and this one is quite blue Spritz the picture does'nt do it justice.... it is proberly the same one that you have... i did send you some seeds from this anyway did'nt i...well you will be able to compair.... maybe the one you have is a newer one that is perennal ?

I have planted them all, Angie - with a bit of bottom heat. There were only 8 seeds in the new packet. We'll have to wait and see if the 'blurb' is correct, won't we! Obviously, I haven't a clue.

did you plant all that i sent you too?.. I have some more if needed Spritz... good luck though hopefully you won't need it...
26 Aug, 2009
Yes, I did - possibly the wrong decision, but as I was labelling a seed tray, it seemed right at the time.
The baby 'Bill Wallis' seedlings are coming along nicely, Angie - it won't be long! :-)
26 Aug, 2009
:D mmm looking forward to meeting Bill :D :D and you never know Spritz with these seeds... at the end of the day you don't know till you try.. if the pack says you can sow during autumn then i would imagine you can..

I do hope so - no sign of any yet..I'll keep checking, of course! lol.
