Coltsfoot, British Tobacco

DiOhio

By Diohio

Coltsfoot, British Tobacco (Tussilago farfara)

This perennial wildflower is usually the very first to bloom in my yard. It comes up along the edge of my driveway and is spreading up into the yard. It was introduced from Europe, hence the other common name, British Tobacco (British used the leaves as an herb tobacco). The medicinal use for this plant was for curing coughs. I'm familier with Coltsfoot - it grows in my local woods - but I never knew you could smoke it! ha ha - I won't be giving it a go! Sarah.
