They flower above the vine canopy - it's too dark underneath!

I can't reach them to find out! lol.

How tall are they?

What a lovely shot - they look so good against the sky.

lovely pic spritz

I just asked my husband, Ian - he reckons the roses are about 12' tall!!
Poor things - they are brave and stubborn, aren't they!
25 Aug, 2009
Very...... Wow I never knew they went that tall. My mum always had roses when we were young but they were only 3 - 4 ft tall

We have climbing roses on the front of the house, Ian - they go right up to the roof.
These poor pink ones either grow up above the vine, or they can't flower! I don't prune them for obvious reasons, or of course deadhead them.

We've just ordered a grape vine and a viburnum......
25 Aug, 2009
Oooh!! Which Viburnum??

Errrrrr hold on while I go and check....................................... Phew, I'm back, Bodnantense Dawn. Any good?

Yes, Ian - lovely scented flowers in the winter! You'll enjoy that. :-))
26 Aug, 2009
Oooh goodie ! Lol Thank you, I do like good news :~))

Hmmm. a grape vine...what sort...and why? They're not easy to cope with, Ian...
26 Aug, 2009
Oh dear! Well why is the easiest, Carol has always wanted one! ! !
As for which sort well hang on again and I'll go and look...............................................................................I'm back again, It says 3ft Fire grape vine vitis brandt. Its rare apparently? ? ?

OK - I suspect you'll be asking questions on GOY about how to deal with this! My vines are all ornamental, and yours is, I believe, the real thing...so I can't help, I'm afraid!
I hope your weather is good/warm enough for grape-growing, Ian!
26 Aug, 2009
Hmmmm It certainly was'nt this morning, Brrrrrrrrr proper chilly it was. Lol :~))
26 Aug, 2009
It might survive in the greenhouse though! ! !
26 Aug, 2009
A lot of people do grow their grape vines in greenhouses, Ian!
Did you have wind and rain like us?? A really 'orrible day! YUK!!
26 Aug, 2009
We've had a couple of 'up and down' days if you know what I mean. Hot and muggy but overcast with plenty of VERY heavy showers/pownpours to boot! ! !
26 Aug, 2009
It certainly wasn't warm here, Ian! Brrrr....on with my fleece again!
26 Aug, 2009
Carol has just reminded me it was freezing here this morning and if you go back a few comments well I must have forgotton about that? Its certainly warm enough now! ! !
26 Aug, 2009
I do hope your grape vine will be happy, Ian....they do need warmth to produce any grapes. I expect it will be dormant very soon.
26 Aug, 2009
I was thinking of keeping it indoors over the winter. In the house I mean.
26 Aug, 2009
I've been featured Spritz. well one of my photo's has :~)))))))))
26 Aug, 2009
Where?? where??
Back to the grape vine. Not a good idea (in the house). They do need to go dormant, I know that much! I think you need someone who grows grapes to give you some REAL advice...
26 Aug, 2009
I've been featured on my photo of my strawberry bed.
I'll ask a question on here first and see where we go from there
