Harlequin Ladybird

The Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis) is a voracious predator. As well as consuming vast amounts of Greenflies etc. it is also thought to be a danger to the ordinary Ladybird and other British insects. More info on the web, and how to report sightings, which I did yesterday. This particular speciman was walking around the outside of my compost bin. It caught my attention as it appeared to have many more black spots than normal. I'm wondering if these are responsible for the lack of ladybirds this year or is it the weather.
