Great Pic Milky. How is the Milky Bar Kid doing with the dove?

27 Aug, 2009

Its still with us Toto, but its getting very skittish now, I keep trying to tempt it down, but it just sits in the tree looking down at us. Do they like mealworms?..could pick some up tomorrow, other than that I have tried all seeds that I can.....Toto did you notice the bottle brushes in the pots? they are doing well

27 Aug, 2009

Quite a collection! Do they arrive daily?

27 Aug, 2009

They are not usually insect eaters Milky but young birds are often raised on insects by the parents before they change over to eating seed so mealworms may or may not work. Sorry to be so indecisive but can't be sure. Perhaps Bonkers could help. Why not send him a pm incase he hasn't seen your pic.
Thanks for pointing ot the Callistemon they are doing very well as you say.

We raised a baby dove once
in a box in our kitchen , it was so tiny it didn't even have feathers , it absolutely loved ready brek and thrived on it .

When it was bigger and could fly I left the door open in the day so that it could choose whether to go in or out , it started to fly out in the morning but then it would fly back in at night , it would go round all our heads to see which one it would settle on .. lol ..

At the end of that summer we were sitting outside on a nice evening it flew onto my lap and sat there , we didn,t see it anymore it was as though it was saying goodbye . ..
We would like to think it migrated and nothing bad happened to it ....

Oh Amy, how lovely. This little one has got very skittish in the lay or so, and I can see it up in the tree today, but it is dense, so I shall keep watch, but he may have flown.......

Hi Maureen, what a lovely pic. I havent seen a starling for months and I love them, they make me laugh how the descend and then off they go. We have doves though, they like corn I believe. :-)

28 Aug, 2009

Well been giving them "Cornflakes" ha ha ha ha ha

28 Aug, 2009

29 Aug, 2009

29 Aug, 2009

Your welcome to come and dine with them Toto.......

30 Aug, 2009

Lovely pic Milky ! The starling gang come visit my 'caff' in the back garden. You always know when they're there, you hear them before you see them ! haha Just like a gang of teenage boys ! The parents have been bringing the kids here for a few years now and they're so used to me that if I'm sat in the garden they take no notice at all.
Have you got a birdbath ? If not, have a look at my pics. I have hours of fun ! lol

31 Aug, 2009

Yes Sue...we have 2 bird baths and they fill them full of poo!!!! yuk..... Our lot live in the roof of the next house and no matter what I put out they swarm in as soon as I put it out in the morning.....Choock is their favorite delicacy...................Lol

31 Aug, 2009

Choock ? Chicken ? Or am I being slow again ?? lol

31 Aug, 2009

No Sue I mean chicken....whatever is left....I sling out the next morning, and the bones are picked totally clean within minutes .......better than making the dustbin smell all week............

31 Aug, 2009

What a good idea ! In my neck of the woods we have a lot of the 'ground squirrels whose tails have alopaecia' as Indy puts it !! lol But from what you say there'd be nothing left for them !

31 Aug, 2009

Certainly wouldn't Sue........those starlings are greedy little beggers......dont leave so much as a morsel

1 Sep, 2009

Cheers Milky. Perhaps then they night leave the stuff on the table alone !! (NOT !) haha

1 Sep, 2009
