Potentilla

Potentilla

I think this is beautiful and so cheerful. It was bought quite a few years ago and although it is lowgrowing, I don't remember the exact variety. It was bought to replace a conifer that was getting too big for its boots and has rewarded us with this great display. It is cut back in the spring with shears but doesn't seem to mind this harsh treatment. We have other potentillas along by our front wall that I am hoping to train as a kind of hedge but this is the best of the bunch.

Your potentilla obviously thrives on being cut back in Spring. Mine needs that, how low do you cut it, mine is a bit straggly. Your's looks gorgeous.

Hi Mad
My husband is more gentle with the shears than me - I am apt to be too harsh so this potentilla is left to him. The proposed hedge at the front of the garden will be due for a trim next year and as they vary in age, I will let you know what happens but I think a little at a time will be best.
