Painting the grass

Painting the grass

Well, I'm trying to plot out my path, of course!

what are you going to make the path with? Chips, gravel?

30 Aug, 2009

Maybe bark chips to start with, then gravel, I think!
I'd love purple slate, but cant afford it!

30 Aug, 2009

sounds good mari, bet it will look really good with your stepping slabs there

30 Aug, 2009

I might put them back in, but I'm not too sure at the moment!!
I've answered your pm, & dont worry yourself!!

30 Aug, 2009

I think it will look good, think i would leave stepping stones in.

30 Aug, 2009

Hopefully! Its a bit wooly now that I look at the pic, but I'll adjust it as I go along, as always. At least I will if the rain stops!!

30 Aug, 2009

Oops! Editing, Carol? You're doing a me!
I might well put the slabs back in, I took them out to cut the grass & stated playiing with the design!!

30 Aug, 2009

I've got slabs and bark on part of my garden they look quite good, only thing i find with the bark it disappears as time goes on as it blows away and breaks down to nothing, but at same time i like it as it looks more real than stones or gravel, so i'll wait and see if you come up with something differant.

30 Aug, 2009

As I said, its all down to money at the moment, & I dont have enough to do everything I'd like, so it'll have to be whatever I can come up with!
But it's all work in progress, so you never know!

30 Aug, 2009

Marie i know how you feel, i get these brain wave ideas then realise it takes money, so start thinking of cheaper ideas.

30 Aug, 2009

I've become an expert on making something out of nothing, so progress needs to go with what I can have at the time!!
I'm always looking for cheaper ways to do stuff, & ways to recycle! I wish I had a shredder, then I could make my own chips out of the fallen branches lying around the woods!!

30 Aug, 2009

Long shot Marie-Perhaps you can find a shredder on freecycle? or perhaps someone would lend you one for a short while.

30 Aug, 2009

Now theres an idea! Thanks Richard!
I'll ask my dad as well, one of his mates is bound to have one!!

30 Aug, 2009

Love the shape of your path MP :) I think it'll look great whatever material you use...slate, gravel, bark or shredded chippings.

30 Aug, 2009

Thanks Di! It'll probably change a bit as I dig it out, tho!!
Its my grass Cobra!!

30 Aug, 2009

Lol, I fancied the "plum slate" too in my plans but cash dictated that I bought red bark instead.

31 Aug, 2009

Yep! It usually does! I hate money, ut only cos I dont have any!!

31 Aug, 2009

Whatever you put down will be nice so go with the flow and let money dictate. Either option is good but leave the slabs with bark all around them - if you go with bark. I have a mullion of slugs if you want to use those - AND ALL FOR FREE!!!

31 Aug, 2009

What money????
I dont think II need any more slugs thank you, I have MORE than enough! LOL!
I will put the slabs back when I've dug it all out, & will probably end up with the bark or preferably the coconut type! Love the smell!! Luckily I have a roll of plantex left!

31 Aug, 2009

WOW that's going to be amazing Marie, i can see where you're going now!
This shape is going to be the pivot from where all the rest will take form. Thanks for letting us share the journey x

1 Sep, 2009

Thank you! I THINK it'll look ok!
But I wish I could afford a high fence!! I'm so sick of, that'll look daft, & what is it supposed to be?
I have to exercise great self restraint!

1 Sep, 2009

I've planted living walls two years ago and they're giving me the privacy I needed now. Thinking of cost...Poles and netting with Ivy, Jasmine etc would give you a good screen if you can hold back from the neighbours long enough!

1 Sep, 2009

I'm also thinking of willow & bamboo! Then I could grow climbers up that! What would be quickest? LOL!

1 Sep, 2009

Willow=Free (wildcrafted)...
Bamboo=£'s,(garden centre)
hmmmmmmmm?

1 Sep, 2009

I've started "harvesting" willow already but I REALLY want some bamboo!

1 Sep, 2009

Make sure that you get a clumper then or you'll end up with that and nothing else, or restrain it in a big pot. I'm looking for Black stemmed bamboo myself at the mo, hoping to find a kind soul who may be thinning out a nice clump.

1 Sep, 2009

I just missed out on it!! Freecycle, but it'd gone b4 I saw it!!
I could send you a couple of my heavenly bamboo seeds! (I've got 6!)

1 Sep, 2009

That's just the problem with freecycle, you have to be practically sat on the computer to snap the things up quick...put up a wanted?

1 Sep, 2009

I will do, no replies to the ones I did put up tho!
Do you want me to see if my heavenly bamboo takes & send you some? (its the friendship bamboo)

1 Sep, 2009

Now that's a lovely idea M, I'd love a piece...I can return the compliment and send you some of my Fountain Bamboo (fargesia maurelli I think)...do you like that one?

2 Sep, 2009

I havent seen thayt one, but it sounds lovely! Do you have a pic up?
I would love some! I'll sow the bamboo seeds now! (I gave David 4 seeds so one of us should get some!!)

2 Sep, 2009

I just did a search, & the Chinese fountain bamboo is fargesia nitida apparently! It's gorgeous! Yes please!!

2 Sep, 2009

I'll be thinning it a little soon, will keep you posted. I've put a photo up on my gallery where you can see it a bit, couldn't find a full on one. It's the one to the left of the acer.

2 Sep, 2009

Thank you!! Mmmwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaah!

2 Sep, 2009

Fargesia murielae...google it?

2 Sep, 2009

It's a good time of year to plant it now , so good timing. 8-)))

2 Sep, 2009

I googled it! You've got an umbrella! I told David I wanted an umbrella for the garden! Symbolism again!

2 Sep, 2009

You'd better get your wellies on then, all this planting...it hasn't stopped raining all day here and the garden's like a bog (heavy clay).

2 Sep, 2009

It was dry til I got home & went into the garden! Cant wear wellies! So the now non-waterproof hiking boots will have to do!! LOL!

2 Sep, 2009

LMAO Marie I thought for a moment you had a visit from forensics , lol he he haha haha , you have done a great job there tis looking great well done

3 Sep, 2009

I could do with one Morgana! As long as they stuck to digging the path! LOL!

3 Sep, 2009

Perhaps you should of told your neighbour another story he he haha lmao it is hard work, I had 2 allotments and skimmed both of them.

3 Sep, 2009

LOL! Different neighbours & 20 years later!
Its definitely hard work! I feel like just killing off the grass & gravelling it all, but cant afford to just yet!

3 Sep, 2009

Don't gravel you ll get nothing but weeds to pull, unless you get that lining which has 15 yr guarantee not for weeds to penertrate.

3 Sep, 2009

I 'm sick of the grss! hate cutting it, I have to keep moving sstuff around when I do!

3 Sep, 2009

I would use that blue glass like stuff not noticed any thing comming through them when I ve seen it in gardens its flat like flint or I would slab it I have gravel and so has the church next door and weeds are for ever comming though it, you can use weed killer but then it will effect any food plants you have and stops wild like comming into the garden.

3 Sep, 2009

I really wouldnt want to use weedkiller, I've seen the stuff you mean, gorgeous but very expensive!!

3 Sep, 2009

Let me share my little idea, a "scree" garden - gravel planted with alphine plants Japanese Maples Azalea's & Rhododendrons - the way I see it you could put the weed fabric down plant through it then gravel adding a few larger cobbles.
You could add a small water feature sometime or add some blue stones to symbolise a river
Just a thought !
Davey

8 Sep, 2009

Sounds lovely Davey, & pretty Zen, but I'm on a Himalayan theme! The rhoddys would fit tho! Like the water symbolism idea! I would love a water feature at some point, but dunno where it would go!

8 Sep, 2009

Yes Id like one too but cant really afford / have other priorities (like my greenhouse), the type I like & could visualise in your garden is one that looks like a pile of slate water comes up a pipe in the middle & it trickles over the side making a lovely sound & the colour of the slate changes....when I saw one in the garden centre last I was trying to work out how I could make one myself wether thats being creative or just being a skinflint Im not to sure.
:-)

8 Sep, 2009

Creative of course! Recycling, innovation! Sounds gorgeous!
Love the idea of slate!

8 Sep, 2009

In that case can you lend us £50, oh & put it on the slate, lol

9 Sep, 2009

LOL!! Very nearly funny!!!
