Hylocereus undatus - Red Pitaya, Dragon Fruit Cactus

Dragon Fruit cactus is very widely grown here along walls and fences and up into trees. This is my plant which is on the front yard wall under the large Norfolk Island Pine - Araucaria heterophylla...which gives this cactus to much shade to fruit. Unfortunately, this flower was closing up.

I saw my first H. undatus flower at Kew a few weeks ago; I was very impressed but the flowers had closed by 10am!

Rbtkew, yes they do close by 10:00 a.m.
The best time to see the flowers is in the very early morning hours around 5 or 6:00 a.m.

I missed another flower which was actually growing on the ground
about 3 days ago. It's too bad they bloom at night...when most of us
are sleeping or in the house.
