my wife spotted this in our garden this morning.
I've never seen one before

Wow.....it looks like a white Crab Spider, Misumena vatia from the Thomisidae family Fdm, google it and have a look......:o)

Thanks Janey, after looking it up I would say it is definitely a female crab spider.
In fact at first glance I thought it was a crab as it was holding its front legs up like claws.
I read that they sit on flowers of a similar colour to themselves in a sunny position waiting for insects to land. This one was on a fading hypericum :o)
