Hi Jac - had a quick flick through my wildlife book and this guy is a 'bee-fly' (Suppose you can see why?!) My book says 'Visits flowers to feed on nectar. Larva feeds on grubs of solitary bees.' Yuck! Also says it is 'widespread', whatever that means!

I've been seeing Large Bee Flies here already ! Ours are round chubby-looking fuzzy golden and very quick too. I often see them hovering in mid-air.
