Lovely one Louise, I lost mine back in the summer damn slugs had a good feast before I realized what was happening but they are now shooting again a bit late I know.

Louise, were did you get your Alstroemeria's from ? local gc or sent for them.

I sent away for all of mine Stripes but i've seen a few in the local garden centre, they weren't cheap but they were mature plants in a very large pot - probably 7-8" across.
I thought they were good value for money.

I love these plants. Stripes the slugs got to mine too this year :(

I wonder why mine aren't being attacked because there's plenty of them out there ?

I just don't seem to be able to grow them - I've tried three times, and the plants just vanish! I suppose it might be the sn**ls, as they munch quite a lot in my garden. Yours are just gorgeous, Louise!

Spritz I tried growing them when I lived in Somerset to no avail, but here we have extremely free draining soil which they love. Talking to the nurseryman at Hampton Court, that seems to be the secret, a sunny spot and free draining soil, especially in winter they don't like their feet in wet.

Looking at this I want to buy some, had one at our last house, (left it behind) the colours are so wonderful, I love all your pink flowers.

Alstroemerias have to be an all-time favourite of mine Dd, i'd get some more if i was you ;-)

Do you find them very invasive? I have one, and have just got some bare roots, but Bamboo said she found them to be very invasive, so I am a bit worried about planting them...?

I can only speak from experience Muddy and say that i've not had that happen.
I read once that if the plants are in too hot a position they do indeed produce tuberous roots - in place of/at the expense of - the flowering shoots.

I would plant them Muddy, you'll be able to see what they're doing in enough time and if necessary move or divide them then.
