New Parterre

Treeman

By Treeman

New Parterre

This is our new fruit parterre. It is built up of a number of triangles. Inside each triangle there is either a plum, a pear or a crab-apple tree. Also there are three DA english rose bushes, a blackcurrant bush and misc cottage garden plants including lupins, delphiniums and verbena bonariensis. Between the pergolas there are wires that support espalliered apple trees.
It's early days yet but we're pleased with the results. There has been terrific hatchings of Painted Lady and Peacock butterflies. Also numerous different species of bumblebees.

Louise. The garden started out as about 1/2 acre when we bought a derelict house and field. That was 12 years ago and every year the garden grows and the field shrinks. I suppose when this pic was taken back in the autumn the garden was about 1 1/2 acres but we have plans to build a new bog garden and pond which will shrink the field even more.
Being in the field the scale of the pond can be bigger than the pond in the garden, so it is about 8m by 9m. The weather here has been so cold that I was able to have a wee skate on the pond for the first time yesterday. There was a loud crack so I exitted the ice in a hurry!

I'll post a pic of the new pond for you to see.
