Morgana I have a struggle with it, my problem is slugs eating it at ground level I have found a copper in pregnated material about 10in sq with a slot cut and sliped around it on the ground is a big help the pests are loath to cross it however if you allow the plant to spread onto another one the slugs and snails climb that to reach and eat it.

M .There are frogs within a few feet but have not seen a toad for some time.Part of the problem is the number of badgers we have, they eat them and my slow worms who in the past have helped keep them under control.

What a shame, they say that badgers go after the critters that live with in the ground, get rid of them and the badgers go.
