Thanks for all your lovely comments Morgana (and Suey187 of course) - I had a head start thanks to two potted mature hostas on the right. I'm going to divide them as they're too big for the space now. Is it ok to divide when we're close to frosty UK weather?

Yes as long as you don't plant any thing in frosted ground.

Awwww, thank you thank you thank you Sanbaz :) Above all the foliage there's a white climbing Hydrangea Petiolaris which is coming on nicely after 1.5 years (even flowered this Summer), a deep pink rambling rose which I'm still scratching my head over, and a Parthenocissus Henryana which seems to be bolting in every direction. Wild :)

i have a white climbing hydragea, its first year, in a pot and one against a fence, not sure they are going to do well, time will tell, i just love the flower heads
