Ornamental Kale Northern Lights


Ornamental Kale Northern Lights (Brassica oleracea (Capitata) (Ornamental cabbage))

grew thse from seed, they are so easy! Slugs and caterpillars like them though :( Colour coming out after a chilly night last night (4.5C).

Looks terrific. Have seen these in mass plantings in one of our parkland areas over here - it was a fabulous sight!

Bernieh - I saw your pic, its what made me go out and take my own. I love seeing plants growing on both sides of the world at the same time. Greenthumb - they really thrive in the cold, the colder the better, we had a touch of frost last night so they seem to be looking even bolder now. We very very rarely see the northern lights here (I bet you frequently do?) but you can see why the plants have this nickname.

Oh yes. And we do see them often, long as the sun is being active (nothing last year). I cut mine when the cool came, should have left them to tempt the Moose. I'll be placing a few more next year, their are wonderful.
