well Anne i have to say i have never had that problem, but this is the first year in this new garden that i have done them. and it is right next to the bird house as you can see. so we will have to see what happens. the only thing i can saggest is to make the moss very thick, hopefully once the plants and moss all knit together it won't be a problem - i have wrote a blog on hanging baskets, have a look through see what you think.

This will look fantastic in the summer when in flower. Did you grow the plants from seed or cuttings, or buy them?

i did cheat a bit Chris, i bought some as seedlings at pricking out stage and some as mini plugs at the beging of march. i do like to grow my own things from seed but from previous expereince you can't get them big enough in time with a cold greenhouse, and i don't get on too well with propergators. but i still saved quite a bit of money this way, and they should be nice and big and blooming for the summer!

I'm a late starter, only bought the first plug plants destined for my hanging baskets last week-end. They were the geraniums and fuchsias, all being well I hope to find the petunias/verbenas/lobelias and foliage plugs this weekend.
I have been in the habit of planting up my baskets in early May but I shall follow your example this year, time permitting. :-)

be careful Xela, i have double lined these baskets with the fleece as they were still getting a little bit cold with just a single layer. but they seem to be doing much better now - hopefully this little experiment will be a sucess fingers crossed!
