Yes, the inside is the edible fruit with many seeds. They are very sweet and is high in anti-oxidants. Have you ever heard of the dragon fruit drink? It's is very common here.

The plants are also very widely grown here...vining up into trees, fences and walls.

you might check out Terry60's pics of Prickly Pear Cacti..growing beside a pathway in Italy... she even posted a pic of how to eat the fruit.

Prickly Pear cacti or so common here...they grow wild in every canyon and hillside by the several millions.. We pretty much take them for granite here.

I'll have to check out Terry60's photos...I'd like to see how she peels the fruit.

I've eaten the fruit before however, it has so many seeds...it tend to be a lot of work. lol.

...and the flowers of Hylocereus are stunning too.
