First time I tasted roast chestnuts was many years ago at a Bonfire night. Thought they were really chewy until someone told me that you had to take the shells off !!! Doh ! :-)))

Brings back memories! My grandfather had a chestnut tree in his garden and we would roast chestnuts in an old saucepan he'd punched holes in the bottom of over a bonfire.

Blimey, that's brought back memories. My old Dad used to take me shopping to Lewisham (S E London) in the winter and there was a roast chestnut seller with a brazier just off the High St. Cold hands around a sixpenny bag of hot chestnuts - marvellous !
