Now that looks like a purple iris flower, not too sure of its botanic name though, I think I have this and have posted some pics earlier.

The flower certainly does look like that of an Iris but it's difficult to see the rest of the plant to be sure :-)

Neomarica gracilis! I have this in my garden here, one of my treasures! Mine blooms once a year and the flower last just a few hours. I love this. What a wonder having them growing wild. Here's a link to it in my garden:

Very interesting information in your garden.... interesting they bloom by your winter... it means they kept their native blooming time... this is a summer flower here... :o)

This spurred me to watch for other south hemisphere plants for winter blooms. Haven't found any others that keep that schedule other than the amaryllis.
