how hardy is it? sheltered doesnt mean the same thing really does it? is it a wall shrub/climber? I have seen it before in books but you are the first person i know who grows it.

It's a small shrub - not very hardy, sadly. Needs a careful position - and possibly some winter protection, tho' 'Marian' came through last winter unscathed!

It was C. 'Marian's Marvel' that has come through two winters, Robert. This one was only planted this year, so I'll hold fire on its hardiness.
