that red cordaline would do better in the ground though you have a lovley livley garden.looks a nice place to be.what i do is get or make big planters and either take the bottem out or not build one.you should give it a go.get an old dustbin or something like it.rap it in chicken wire and stick cement on it.maybe put compost with the cement as well as sant.ow wear gloves.it plays havock with my manicure lol
ps
you can have water without a pond.also i have a 2000 gallon pond and all i ever do is take the odd leaf out.its all in the design.i have a watercress and bbq charcoal filter with milk crates underneath.but fair play we cant all be the same

Interesting you should mention the good old charcoal, Noseypotter! I buy a mixture of activated charcoal and a resin which I just put in a net bag and place beside the pump at the bottom of my pond. The circulation of the water thro the pump works with the charcoal and resin to keep the water clear....and any algae stays clumped so it can be removed with a seive..but by far the best is the mention of watercress... multipurpose...and great on a sandwich!!! So you see, water isn't as hard to do as you may think, youngdaisy! and once you have all your lovely plants situated the way you want, you will be able to "branch out" to water plants....lol. ;- ) !!

i have a tip for you .if you buy a large lilly basket or something similer and charcool you just put a layer on the bottom of the basket first.then you put the pump in and fill the basket up near the top.place stones on top of that to keep the charcoal down.you get a great prefilter and the pump never slows or blocks up.hand on my heart in 9 years i have never cleaned the pump out.the charcoal activates itself eventualy .ow i posted a blog with some pictures and fil,s of wear i live
