Hi Sb such a lovely flower, is it really true that every part of the foxglove is poisonous?

14 Nov, 2009

Drc not sure as it is the first year i have grown them, but it is a species so it had better do.

yes all parts are poisonous if you eat them. They contain digitalin [digitalis], used to control the heart rate. its still used in modern heart medictaion. Its one of the alkaloids found in the plant tissues apparently.

mind i dont plan to feed it to hubby [just yet ! only kidding ]

Is foxgove an annual or perennial? Such a pretty plant and I understand it can get by without a lot of sun.

this particular species is perenial though there are some biennial ones too. I have several different species that do well in the shade.
