I was out in the garden earlier getting up some sopping leaves and this poor little soul fluttered down at my feet, wings outstretched and couldn't take off again. I brought him in and was going to put him on the heating pad after I had checked him over. Sadly, he had Trichomoniasis a very contagious disease amongst Doves and Pigeons. I could see the cheesy lesions along his tongue and the horrible clear sticky liquid he had around and in his beak. It is a sort of Diphtheria in birds and a very cruel disease. They can't eat and slowly starve to death until the membrane closes the throat. It comes in epidemics which I pray isn't the case this time. It happened a few years ago and I had so many die on me, although I have all the medication for this disease, they were all too far gone by the time I could pick them up. I put him to sleep out of his suffering. I haven't seen Zeus for two days either, now I'm worried :o(

Thanks for understanding, I wish I was made of sterner stuff, each time I have to do this is hurts even though I have had to do it many, many times. Each time I want to save them and most times by the time they are down, it is too late.

What you are doing is the kindest thing Pammy. As you say, by the time they are down it is too late to save them and what you are doing is ending their pain and suffering. I admire you for being brave enough to do it our kid xxx

God bless him Pam, you did the kindest thing. With all the wind we've got about I should think that Zeus is laying low somewhere. He'll be back when it drops a bit. :~)))
