It flowers a small yellow trumpet shaped flower about an inch wide. I love Caudex/Caudiciform plants and have about eight of them. I love the exposed roots.

It looks like a gesneriad, Mike... especially since the flower is trumpet shaped... have you an Episcea? if not, check them out next time you're plant shopping!

Aparently it is not a gesneriad!..lol. there is a var. peltata that has a deep red throat. "wicked on fingers" self fertile but handle seed pods with gloves. Google Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden it's in Coral Gables, Fla...really great site...esp for waterlilies too.
