This is a small ginger family plant , is dormant in winter .

The leaves on this one are crappy but I picked it because it had a flower.They really spread over time.Pity they go dormant in winter.

The elegans has a slightly more brightly patterned leaf. I have mine growing in a large pot and it's filled out the pot in a year - it's an under-planting so when it goes dormant there's other plants to add interest.

They are a gorgeous plant - I have the elegans and I just love the beautiful leaves and the purple flowers!
