Mushybanna:

WOW! I didn't realize Dicksonia fribosa was able to tolerate snow.

Many species of Dicksonia grow here in San Diego...however, most species are native New Caledonia....or the very common Dicksonia squarrosa, which is native to Northern New Zealand.

It is usually left outside but under a tree for protection from frost but this year i have put a lot of straw in the crown to protect it.I did the same for the Tree fern in the front garden so it should be ok.. It has been outside for 4 years now
I tend to garden by give it a go and see what happens

It seems to be surviving well for you. I've read they grow in the colder areas at pretty high elevations of New Zealand where they experience snow. I never knew this...like I say...I learn something new on GoY almost everyday. : > )
