LOL! These Giant-bird-of-paradise are still small...they'll grow easily 3 times this size...and they do grow like a weed in California. They are closely related to Traveler's Palms...they're both in the Strelitziaceae family.
Yes, the Alyssum was so bright it showed up as a mass of white. : > )

Wow ... they are tall! Could be mistaken for young traveller's palms from a distance! The alyssum really looks terrific.
