thanks i do love Astilbe, but its not an easy one to grow, but having done some research i think i have the right conditions for it here, heavy clay soil usually water logged but with the addition of some much needed home grown compost. some sun, but only for a couple of hours a day in the summer, the rest of the time full/semi shade. so fingers crossed this one wont shrivel and die like the others i have tried previously have.

They dont mind full sun but the soil must be kept wet at all times.

That is true of most Japon, but as i have found out through trial and error and some research.... not true of some of the modern hybrids, as is this one..they can tollerate,,, no infact thrive in dryer conditions....i have some more recent pic's so you can see how well it has progressed. the place i had it originally planted was more moist but not as much sun...it did'nt seem to like it..so i moved it to another spot, now it is in full sun all day and the soil is dryish...i do water well, but by no means damp soil and as you will see from most recent pic's it's loving it...
