Do you mean the three round bushes at the front...

It looks more like box ...Buxus sempervirens...than privet...
.. but can't see the leaves very clearly..

I agree, it's Buxus (Box).
These plants can be bought at various degrees of maturity so can make an established look or can be bought as young plants that will take a few years to develop (as all plants).
They can be pruned quite hard if you wanted to keep them very low and could plant them close together to form low hedging ..... topiarising them is quite easy too.

These look like my Buxus sempervirens, just lightly trim them to your prefered shape 1 or 2 a year. You can spend as little or as much as you like on these depending on the size you choose. I find that the very small ones take a while to establish so its worth spending a bit more for older ones.

You can also get the cuttings to root very easily...
I gave cuttings to my friend a few years ago and they've turned into lovely little box hedge plants :o)

do you guys think that dwarf goldcrests would be a good substitute if kept small and trimmed??? the ones with the lemony smell?!?!?
