Phoenix canariensis - Canary Island Palm

These trees are called California Palms also...because they have naturalized here. Canary Island palms actually germinate in asphalt and concrete. They are considered a weed palm here. However, I still love the old trees. They're so regal and stately!

This posted tree is male...the female trees usually have a larger crown and are even more beautiful... and are almost always full of orange fruit also.

I love these too,Delonix,I wish we had weeds like this..:o)).How fascinating to see how they germinate,thanks for the info...

Generally the female trees have hundreds of seedlings growing under them.
