Phoenix canariensis - Canary Island Palm

An old tall Canary Island palm at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA.in San Diego County. This palm is most likely around 85 feet/ 26 meters tall. I think Canary Island Palm is the second most planted palm in CA. Mexican Fan Palm is number 1.

These trees are called California Palms also...because they have naturalized here. Canary Island palms actually germinate in asphalt and concrete. They are considered a weed palm here. However, I still love the old trees. They're so regal and stately!
This posted tree is male...the female trees usually have a larger crown and are even more beautiful... and are almost always full of orange fruit also.

Generally the female trees have hundreds of seedlings growing under them.
