Many Senegal Date Palms are full of ripening fruit in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken Feb. 23, 2010.

I think it's edible...however, isn't the high-quality fruit like Phoenix dactylifera - True Date palm.

I was going to say i'm off to the garden centre to get one but its properly quicker to go to the supermarket and buy some dates...:o)))))

Yes, the supermarket would be much faster. : >) Date trees: to produce high quality fruit must a have a very, very hot desert climate.
Dates are grown commercially in the far eastern San Diego County, Riverside County in the Coachella Valley (which is in the desert).

I've always thought of P. reclinata as a very fast growing palms (even in the Bay Area).

My mistake...I was thinking it was P.rupicola.

Yes, P. rupicola is a slower grower pretty much anywhere.
