Monstera deliciosa 'variegata' - Variegated Split-leaf-Philodendron

Monstera deliciosa 'variegata' - Variegated Split-leaf-Philodendron (Monstera deliciosa 'variegata' - Variegated Split-leaf-Philodendron)

Variegated Split-leaf-Philodendron is not as commonly grown as the green form which is very easy to grow. Sometimes this variegated form can revert back to green. Photo taken in the Botanical Building, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. on Feb. 23, 2010.

how unusual

Bernieh:

It's more of a curiosity...however, sometimes available for sale at the nurseries. It needs shade or the white sections will burn severely.

Yorkshire:

It is a little unusual.

Now that is a new one on me, does the variegation occur in it's native habitat?

Junglejen:

I would think so...however, not certain. This plant sometimes reverts back to green though.

Have it. lol. Well, the mottled cultivar..that on occasion does have half white leafs. Even the stems are marble swirl.

Does it grow well outdoors?

So far. I bought it in early summer at the Dry Garden. 4 new leaves since then..that's rocket fast for Monstera in the bay area. Its still in a pot. Under King palms and the back porch overhang...but gets filtered sun from noon or so. I do have the green in the ground for ..many years. Spreads wide and is climbing over a 6' fence. Not much fruit- too much shade. They fruited better in more sun years ago.

40$..I couldn't pass it up.

Good luck with the variegated form. I know they tend to be a little more tender.

My Monstera deliciosa has some flower on it, right now. It didn't bloom for a long time because it's in too much shade, also. Unfortunately, I can never get to the fruit before the ants get to them.
