There's many in San Diego growing very well. Plumeria obtusa needs to grow in full sun all day in winter to prevent black-tipping. Young trees are more susceptible...large trees more than 10 feet / 3 meters tall seem to not have this problem...even when planted in more shaded spot.

It's always a lovely sight ... I have one of these trees myself and it's my all-time favourite plumeria.
