Autumn Fire

Autumn Fire (Continus 'Grace')

Continus 'Grace', looked stunning as it came into its autumn colours. The smokebush as it's commonly named, just before she dropped her leaves.

It's pretty spectacular isn't it? Mind you, it was blowing a gale and so cold when I took this! I also have a Continus 'Spirit', which has bright lime green leaves. :o))

To be honest, through the year it is just green, nothing quite as spectacular as the dark purple one which we had but lost, but it does make up for it as Autumn falls Sb :o))

During the Autumn, she really comes into her own, Muddy! We have had to trim it back a bit this year,as was getting so big,so hope she does just as well the end of this year too, have got my fingers crossed!! Thanks for your comment, as always good to hear from you :~))

Hi Flori (now we're on abbreviated terms !), I pruned my 'Grace' back hard to about 6ins from the ground a few weeks ago - it looks terminal, but she will burst back to 6 or 7 ft high in no time and have leaves the size of saucers. I'm unlikely to get flowers, but it's those gorgeous leaves I'm after ! :-))

Wow Muddy!! And there was I feeling bad about cutting off a large branch!!!! The guilt was dreadful (how sad am I?), but it has improved the 'shrub' a lot,but 6inches?? Pruning back does improve a plant and keeps all its energy going where it should be,but I am a real wimp when it comes to cutting back, but as you said,it really does grow back in no time, and usually better for it. Better to keep it manageable than have to remove it altogether cos it has outgrown its place and become a bit of a monster!! :~()
