Duvets for doggies or pussy cats

Duvets for doggies or pussy cats

When our local branch of Dogs Trust advertised for old curtains, blankets, sheets etc for use in their homes I thought I could help them and myself by cutting up kingsize and double duvets which are impossible to wash in my machine. I sewed up the cut edges, washed them and recovered them in pillow slip type covers made from spare material and old curtains and sheets I had, needing to be recycled. We had done the same to make kicking mats for our grandchildren when they were babies.

theyre great Sheila, the doggies will be so grateful, you ve worked hard there.i use to be a volunteer at my local dogs home,we were always desperate for bedding.we use to make sure every dog had something to lie on,which was very difficult at times but we managed to do it.thanks to donated bedding etc.

It helped me too because what could I do with duvets too large to wash. It was cheaper to buy new ones than have them laundered professionally. I was unaware of the need until I saw the article in the local paper. Great way to recycle old home furnishings

Good idea Scotsgran, when I saw the smaller pic I thought it was your ironing pile waiting to be done after you've finished on GOY ! As if you ever get to the bottom of it lol !
I used to do the same for our dogs and will do again for the dogs home, thanks for the reminder.
Charity shops only want new stuff so it's good to put anything else to use after a wash :)

I wish that was my ironing pile Aster. I really hate ironing and tend to either do it immediately it comes in off the line or it lies until it is so dry it is impossible to iron without damping it down. The dogs trust locallyhas kennels which look outward from an octagonal shape. The dogs cannot see other dogs unless there are two in the pen. They have chairs and settees for them to lie on and they use the old sheets etc as throws. They never put a healthy dog to sleep. It is heart breaking to read the dogs personal stories on boards on the kennel fences.
