Aw....that's tragic Bjs.........fingers crossed for you that there will be signs of life under there. How old is it?

It looks fine Bjs. Can you not just have a 'wee peek' to see if there's new growth lol. I'm sure it is ok. Don't leave it packed too long it needs the air to circulate.
I packed mine with leaves and wrapped the the trunk in fleece thinking I was doing well. Unpacked it last weekend and found it it had turned putrid ! It just looked like yellow puss...... horrible. We reckoned it had been packed too tightly. I don't hold out too much hope there. I've put a pic of it on my question about tree fern if you dare to look. :~(((.

I will have a look Skillen I have alway covered it the way Alan Titmarsh used to do his pushing straw down in the crown and holding it there with chicken wire,he said never use hay as it would turn to mush probably the leaves do the same thing.two years ago I pulled a wrens nest out complete with 2 eggs which was a shame ,
Was this the first winter for your Fern ,shame if its gone trhey are not cheap.

Janey the fern has been there at least 10 years there are a couple of pictures in leaf on page 4 of my pictures
