This is what happens if the winter is long and hard, mad women like me order eleven different varieties of ivy!!! nine of them are here potted up. If anyone has any ideas as to what I can do with them, apart from starting an ivy collection, please let me know:-))

Lol Lauram, glad to know I'm not the only one and yes, my ivy will grow...that's part of the problem! I've got loads of lovely plants coming also and loads already potted up. Unfortunately I have no garden to put them in as it's being madeover and it will take about 5 weeks! Perhaps you could offer a swap on here...marsh ferns for drought tolerant plants? just a thought lol:-))

you did have a mad moment bornagain, lol, hope you have fences or walls for these lovely ivy to climb up, just make sure they done start to crawl like the ones my neighbour have, when clearing my new area was a nighmare getting it all out of the ground and catually wound through the fence, but i still love them ;o))

I had thought of leaving them in pots or possibly troughs Sanbaz, what do you think, would they still help cover the fence?

i guess so if the pot is big enough, and make sure plenty of water if in direct sun, i have one in a hanging basket and tends to go a bit brown if neglected yet doesnt happen in the ground, probably enough moisture in ground to keep them going, you can only try and if they start to look unhealthy then reconcider

Ba You can also create topiary with them growing up an obelisk or alternately if you get some wire mesh and shape it into a ball or anything else that takes your fancy tie the ivy in and when it starts to grow cut it close to the shape;0)

Cant help wondering Bornagain what will happen if we have an exceptionally hot summer `mad dogs and englishmen` not only go out in the midday sun but they buy Ivy until there up to their necks in it. Love the blog can`t stop chuckling.

Thanks Stroller, wish some other mad Englishman would buy mine lol, I'll have to controll myself next winter, I should display these ivies in a prominent position as a permanent reminder:-( It's not as though I don't have enough ivy already:-)))

I know the feeling, I ordered several fern species that can't possibly do well in my garden without a whole lot of work, simply because the winter was terrible and long & I wanted spring so badly. Why would I order marsh ferns? Why? We have watering restrictions every summer due to severe droughts & marsh ferns like it wet. So you aren't the only crazy one. At least your ivy will grow.
