It looks very healthy San ... you should hear my hubby moan about our Holly trees , we have some really big tall ones they are always loaded with berries which the birds eat and they drop the seeds and then we have lots of little holly trees growing in amongst the shrubs , The leaves come down like a blanket over the plants and prickle you to bits .. Aaahh .. he would love to have them down but I do like them .......

sound lovely amy even though prickly,, do you pot seedlings on amy

I haven't done San . someone told me they don't like to be moved , perhaps I should try it , I can always give them away if they take ........

18 Apr, 2010

worth a try amy, if you take enough ground from around them , should be ok,

We're talking about possibly getting a holly bush as well to put against the fence further up the garden. This one looks really nice:0)

A very nice plant, but I just have to say this, Sanbaz - why oh why is it planted right against that concrete ledge up against the fence?! Should have been planted 18 inches in front - sorry, but I just had to say it...

22 Apr, 2010

lol bamboo its ok, i didnt know anything about planting when i did this, just started, can i move it now ,, i didnt want to kill it if they dont like being moved

22 Apr, 2010

If you only planted it last year, yes you can move it, but the trouble is, if you do it now, you'll be stuck watering the damn thing every week with at least a gallon or two until it recovers. Best time would be autumn, but by then the roots will be bigger. But the poor thing won't be able to grow in a good shape where it is, so if you can manage the watering, I'd be inclined to do it now, preferably with a piece of pipe aimed at the root ball and buried in the hole, with some sticking up so you can pour water down it, which will go straight to the roots. I use cut up bits of gutter pipe or waste pipe, about 2 feet long, but not copper piping, has to be plastic.

thanx bamboo i will do this over weekend, we have some pipe which is plastic,, its something i have thought about but didnt get round to asking, in fact im going out now to check it out ;o) just been and mesured and its 14 inches away shall i still move it

22 Apr, 2010

are you saying the trunk is 14 inches from the fence? Because in the picture, it looks to be less than an inch from the concrete behind it!

22 Apr, 2010

just been out and messured it, yes 14inches, doesnt look it in pic does it but truely it is, so what do you think i should do, the wood you see is from the little hut on a post

22 Apr, 2010

Leave it then - weird how it looks so close in the picture though, so what I thought was the plant's trunk is actually the bird hut on a post!

22 Apr, 2010

yes that right bamboo, but glad you said something cause i wasnt sure it was to close anyway,,

22 Apr, 2010

If the fence behind is no more than 6 feet or less, then by the time it becomes a tree, it'll bush out over the top of the fence anyway, so you'll get away with it. I wouldn't have mentioned it except it did look much closer than that, lol

22 Apr, 2010

the fence is 5ft from the bed so should be ok bamboo, was told it wasnt a large grower so i hope not to big in this raised border
