I know what you mean.The hawk didn't seem like a full adult as not much bigger than the dove itself. Fortunately, we didn't see the actual attack but assume he swooped into the garden. The trees were quiet for 20 mins or so after. All the little uns taking cover, bless em:0)

I have red-shouldered hawks nesting every year in my pine trees, but I've never been lucky enough to see them as close as you did. That was really an amazing shot! I love birds of prey even tho I'm a vegetarian.

Ali went out to do the dishes and happened to look out the window and nearly keeled over with excitement.....not at what it was doing, I might add.

She always spots them when we are out in the car and I never see them, or rarely, so to get this type of shot - took 50 in total! - was just unbelievable!

I had one sitting on my garden fence a couple of weeks ago. I was so scared for my little birds that I didn't think to take a photo. Fortunately he flew away but, as you say, my garden was very quite and still for some time after.
