six years ago I decided to try to produce a shady corner with ferns and ground cover instead of grass.

Thanks Gt and Ray and Jane! I'm really happy that I found a plant to fit the niche. all of these little beauties (this lovely carpet) came from one tiny 4" clump, planted...let me see.... 3 or 4 years ago. You can see the hosta, aegopodium and cinnamomea ferns along the edge of the area...

Looks like it worked. The little violet is well ahead on the spreading game I think. :-) It is all green, and no turf.
