I'm really patting myself on the back, I guess....but I wanted this exact thing...the soil is clayey and full of stones....it's under two large trees (background left: maple, background right: cottonwood)....and the available moisture most of the year is close to nil... planted the Japanese Spurge, vinca, aegopodium, cinnamomaea and geranium...hoping they would spread and carpet the area...they established themselves but didn't spread as much as I wanted.. bought a small solid purple viola and it did well...my friend gave me a small bit of "freckles" and here you have the result~! . This plant is really very invasive...but for this purpose it is perfect!.
